I have a 01 lightning and about once a week it will die while coming to a stop.
It's like you are forgetting to push in a clutch on a manual tranny.
It has also done this while sitting at idle at a stop light, I felt a shift or the tq lockup and the truck quickly died. WHen I re-start the truck (it's starts fine) it is still in gear or the tq converter is still locked and it will just die as soon as I hit drive. I have to put it into neutral and rev a little then slap it into drive. After that it will be a week or so before it does it again.
The converter and solenoid have already been replaced and it's still doing it.
It has been scanned by a dealer and a trans shop and there are no codes being thrown.
Please help, this has everyone stumped. I would hate to replace the tranny and it still do it.
I am having the same problem with my '02 F-350 4X4 5.4L . Calling Dealer in the morning. Bought it used and have an extended powertrain warranty. I will post the results here when I get some news.

Thank you!!
Sorry your having trouble though it really stinks. I hope they can
nail it down because my dealer could'nt after 7 days of trying.
If the solenoid block (4R100W) and torque converter have been replaced and it still does it then it is almost certainly a problem in the pump. You are probably going to have to go into the transmission.
So, it looks like this is pointing to a pump related problem. No way this could be electrical? i.e. something telling the converter to lock-up when it shouldn't?

I don't see how. The most common cause of this is either a sticking piston in the converter or a sticking solenoid. If you have changed both then it could really only be the pump. My guess is it is having a major pressure loss in the converter charge.
Since we have eliminated the solenoid and converter then for it to be electronic, the computer would have to be commanding lockup when it shouldn't. You could monitor data with a scanner and see if the computer was commanding lockup but I can't imagine a situation where that would happen.
4R100W pumps are much more prone to converter problems than some obscure electronic gremlin that could result in this situation.
they sent the truck home today. couldn't get it to duplicate my complaint, so they put in a "flight recorder". If it acts up all I have to do is push a button, and it will record data for 30 seconds before and after. Hopefully I can get it to stall before I have to take the recorder back next Thursday.
That is good to hear, At least you are getting some help. I know another guy with the same problem. We are both just waiting for it to fall apart.
I'm still waiting for mine to act up again and try something someone mentioned. Mine wouldn't act up for the dearler either and it's going on 3 weeks now since the last mess-up.
Thanks for keeping me posted please let me know what you find out.
Someone told me to put it into rev then drive next time it happened to see if it unlocked it. Well.......
My truck just did the dying thing again at a stop light. I caught it before it died so I put it into nuetral to keep it from dying. I then put it into Rev. it didn't die then I put it into Drive. It seemed like it was going to work at first but after about 10 seconds it started to die again. I did it again and the same thing. It worked for a few seconds then quickly tried to die. I had to slap it into drive from nuetral to take off. After that all was good again???
So, I guess it didn't work, ideas?
Well, I couldn't get it to act up either. Took "flight recorder" back Thursday, and they said as soon as it does it again to let them know, and we will start the process of troubleshooting over again. It has been just over 2 weeks now with no trouble.
