I have been getting a service engine light once in a while. The dealer said that it is a trouble code that intermittently is registered by the turbo and that Ford has been working on a software fix for a year. He said that at this time, there is no fix.
I have been following up on this problem and it seems to have begun when California changed emission standards for the 6.0L around January. At this point, a recall was issued and a reflash was performed. From that point on, if a slight over or under turboboost occurs momentarily, an error is recorded and displayed as a service engine light. There actually is no mechanical problem or anything major wrong with the system other than what was just mentioned. Ford is aware of the problem and new code is being written to solve this problem. At this point in time, I have been told that it may take up to 3 months for the fix to be in place.
My 2004 6.0L F250 (15K miles) has started flashing the check engine light. The dealer couldn't offer an explanation at this time other than - one out of every six 6.0L are doing the same thing. The tech note on my repair order says "oasis found SSM 17701 working on the fix for P2263 code". Apparently that code indicates that I have a "Turbo/Supercharger performance" issue with no known fix for that code at this time.

Who at the dealer told you that? Was it the service advisor, diesel tech or service manager. If it was the advisor, I would speak to the diesel tech and to the service manager. If it was the tech or manager, find another dealer with a good diesel tech.

Has this happened to anyone else?

What year, what engine build date is this, how many miles on it.
I've actually taken my truck to two different dealers who independantly told me the same thing. "Ford is working on the fix for P2263 code". Neither could offer any more info.
Thank you to all that have written and addressed this problem and/or offered a solution. One thing that I failed to mention is that my truck is a 2004 F250 CALIFORNIA 6.0L diesel.
In addition, I have now spoken to two service writers specifically for the diesel and both have given me the same information (i.e., no fix at this time...this is a software issue...Ford is aware of the problem). Also, as I have mentioned before, I did speak to the Motor Company last week about this problem and they are in fact, aware of the problem and are actively engaged in a fix. As mentioned before, the best information that I can ascertain at this time is a 3 month wait until a fix is available. I was instructed to contact the dealer on a periodic basis to check for the fix.
If I understand the problem correctly, this is a turboboost differential problem that is independent of fuel or fuel additives. All was brought about by the recall instigated by the State of California some months ago.

I have about 7k on 03-03 F-350 6.0L. Have had the engine light come on twice but goes out after a couple restarts. Still runs good though. It don't seem to be affiliated with any particular brand of fuel or fuel additives.
