Ok, I scoured the search engine results and can not find the factory exhaust pipe diameters in our forums. My truck is the '04 5.4 XLT S'crew with 3.73s.
I am specifically looking for the diameter of the pipers after the cats and before the muffler and then after the muffler. You can probably guess that I want to swap mufflers only and not purchase the whole cat-back. From what I can tell on getting underneath and making best judgement, it appears its 2 & 1/2" both fore and aft of the muffler. Does that sound about right? The final tip from the factory looks to be about 2 & 3/4". I want to buy a muffler off ebay since they are cheaper than the local shops and then just have it welded up for $30-50 dollars.
I know I read at least one other member do this (Bvister?) and would like to know the details of this change. I don't have $300 or more to drop into new exhaust but would like to open it up for under $100 if possible.
I guess another good question here is can the stock system use an offset set up on the muffler or does it need to be "Center in / Center out" to line up correctly?
