New Napster?
Well, <!with the 4,000+ songs I have downloaded, I realized that RIAA would have the SWAT team on my butt the second I logged on to something like Kazaa, so> I started using this new Napster. I can't say as I have any major complaints. I still think $0.99 per song is a bit pricey, but it beats a $12 million lawsuit. My only other beef with Napster is they don't have a lot of songs/artists available that I like. Most new songs take a few months to become downloadable, so it's already been played out on the radio by the time I can finally buy it. Does anyone else use this new Napster or a similar "legal" music site?

Real says they are losing money at that price tho. They have lowered it to that price for a short term. How long they will keep it there is a ? Their stockholders don't seem to be happy about it.
50 cents a song isn't to bad tho as long as you have some rights to transfer mediums etc. The whole DRM thing is a mess with MS getting in bed with Holyweird and the RIAA and some of the hardware manufacturers. It is a mess when you get a song that you can play on your computer but it won't play in your car etc etc. I still think we will be better off when they squeeze the RIAA out of the whole process and let artists produce what they want to and pay the artists directly. With the proliferation of web distribution and sound studios that are fairly easy to set up with digital processing it could happen and the RIAA is fighting tooth and nail to stop it. Movies will always be a big ticket item to produce so I don't see the same thing happening there.

As of when the sale started, Real was saying it would last 3 weeks but they reserved the right to terminate it at any time. Yeah, they're gonna lose alot of $$$$$. Just trying to drum up biz I guess. If I weren't unemployed, I'd be having a field day on Real.

I've been using Wal-Mart's music download site lately. Prices are .88 per song, and full albums for 9.99.... Pretty decent selection too.
