I would check your base timming. Look under the hood for a sticker on the top of the radiator support. There is a sticker there that explains the process. If the timming is correct, pull your codes. If you don't have a code scanner....get one and READ the instructions. If you don't understand how the codes are generated, your troubleshooting will not be methodical. If you want to trouble shoot this without a scanner, here is where I would start.
Steps to consider:
Clean the thottle plate.
Clean the Intake manifold.
Clean the Idle Air Controller (IAC).
Replace all vacuum lines, or at least repair any leaks.
