Drive Train??

I have a 95 f150, 4x4, 300 4.9l 6cyl, manual tran. 33x12.50x15r tires. The gear ratio in the truck is 308. Which is to high? What ratio would ya'll reccomend and what is the easiest and best way(cost and quality)? I am a little worried about the cost but don't want to spend to little and turning my truck into a piece of crap. Also I don't want to get to low of a gear and start to hurt my pocket book at the pump. I know it is possible to swap out gears yourself, but i don't have a wide assortment of tools handy. So I don't want to get in over my head. Any information would be helpful. Thanks in advance for the help.

I have 3.73s in my 84 F250 4x2 4.9l manual. It also has the same size tires as yours. Pretty decent pulling gear, but MPG SUX!

Wanna trade rearends even up ??

If you have a 5-speed overdrive trans, I'd say go to 4.10's with 33's. The overdrive gear will take care of the highway rpms and you have nice low gearing in the lower 4 with 4.10's in the axles.

Without overdrive, the 3.55 ratio is ok if you're not using the truck for towing. 3.73 would be ok for some towing and offroading without overdrive. 4.10 is good for heavy towing.

The truck is a manual 4-speed with overdrive,total 5 gears. currently the OD has no power what so ever. I really don't tow much, maybe a couple four wheelers periocically. Also when you say sux what do you mean how bad. I get 14+ now. I also have EFI and i put a K&N air filter on it.
