I've got a 96 F-150 5.0 that i just had to replace the throttle body in. the top 'nipple' that cools the throttle body rusted over so i bought a new one. I felt my hoses as well, and they are full of rust. the upper radiator hose, lower radiator hose and the two hoses off to the left if your looking into the engine from the front of the truck (i know they're for cooling but i cant remember what they're
called at the moment) I think im going to get a bottle of rust inhibitor, drain the radiator, replace the hoses (and install a T connector to one of them) and put the rust inhibitor in the radiator along with 50/50 antifreeze.Has anyone else had this problem???
It's because the radiator/coolant needs to be flushed. It has probably been in there for a LONG time. <img src='http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/23/23_28_108.gif' border=0></a>
If they're that full of rust, it wouldn't surprise me if your radiator is plugged up and in need of rodding too. The skinnier hoses on the left side that go to the back of the engine compartment are heater hoses. Flushing it will help for a while, but it's been my experience that it doesn't take long before it's just as rusty as before, unless you take care of the radiator (rod or re-core).
