does it make a clicking noise as if its trying to unlock them but cant? if so, your doorlock actuators can be burning out or something inside the door snapped. if there is no noise then your door lock actuators are either broken, or theres loose wiring.
Sounds like your not getting power to the system, check the fuses then break out the meter and check for power as you trace the wiring. I have the 1989 diagram in the tech info thread at the top of the forum.
I am having the same problem with my '89 Bronco II. I have figured out that both actuators are shot. Problem is that they are about $60 a piece brand new.
I was tols today that the relay switch for the locks is situated behind the front left headlight,is this true for 87/Broncos.Also do you know how many fuel filters there are on a fuel injected 2.9l?
If this is a wiring problem-not 2 bad actuators like KawiG5- the problem is in one of the splices. The EVTM shows that each relay is wired to a splice & from the splice one wire goes to the left door, one to the right door & one to the rear hatch. If a splice is the problem you wont be able to lock OR unlock the front doors. One splice is behind drivers side headlamp, the other "driver side fender apron near relay takeoff." Try wiggling the splices while someone presses the door lock switch.
Your advice was right on the button-it was a loose wire on the drivers side switch,it must have been dislodged when I changed the headlamp.
Thanks to all who responded to my post and I must add that this is a quality forum .
Good deal, glad to hear it's fixed. Like you said this really is a "quality forum", great bunch of guy's that give some XLNT advice and save folks a LOT of money when repairing their trucks.
