diffrence in cams

anyone know the diffrence in a mechanical cam and a hydrolic cam?

iirc, and if im getting you question right, the differnce isnt so much in the cam as it is in the lifters. a mechanical (or solid) lifter is just basically a piece of steel tube between the cam and the pushrods, usually used just for racing as it causes the valvetrain to wear quicker. hydraulic lifters are 2+ pieces with oil in between them that compress as the lobe pushes on it, giving a more gradual lift. while the cams are different, its more in the timings and durations, maybe the heat treatment, than anything else.

chuckman nailed it. mechanical has to be adjusted while hydrolic doesnt because the oil inside along with the spring will take up for the wear on the valve train over time. and rollar uses a rollar tip greatly reducing friction and wear.
