I just added 3 photos to my gallery with the 305s. What I liked, in addition to be load rating E, was they are "meatier" looking (wider) with slightly more diameter, and no rubbing at standard ride height. They just "look better" and fill the wheel-well a bit more than the old 265-75R-16-D tires ... which is the same size tire on my wife's EB Explorer.

I like the tire allot, they do fill out the well…is it quiet at 75?
...now how bout the air deflector, been curious to ask someone if it really works….?
Do you guys running firestones ever hear them howl?? My 2k ex seamed too be howling around town, when i checked them they felt like they may be chaffed. This weekend did about 500 highway miles and now the howling is almost gone. any thoughts??
I had Firestones on an Explore and my dads Expedition and they both howled, very bad on concrete. Over time, it became very annoying. Had a set of Generals, which could compete with any tire for noise, could not hear thunder at 65mph..
Well i think i may have found my howl. Shortly after posting my wife called and told me she had a flat on the right front, luckily it went down in a parking lot and she wasnt moving!! Now i found out my spare is a D rated steel tex, which i would asoom is a pre recall tire as the ex is a 2k.

The Nitto's are surprisingly quiet considering their tread pattern. The air deflector does a real good job of deflecting the RAIN down the back window. Other than that, it's fairly useless. It does not help keep the rear window clean.

That is surprising with the tires; I was wondering about how quiet, they do look aggressive and cool
Bummer about the deflector you read my mind on what I wanted a clean window….
Go to the TireRack.com, great site and side by side comparisons
Used Tirerack in a professional capacity for some years in the bodyshop business. Very competitive prices and the largest inventory I ever found. If they didn't have it, it usually (not always) wasn't available. and PLEASE don't go to wallyworld for tires...........it's not ALWAYS about price but about your safety!!!!!!!
Where did you find 305 E-rated tires? I have searched the Nitto and Toyo web sites, but only find 265"s in the E-rating. I would like to replace my 265's with something larger, but NOT D-rated.
D-rated sidewalls flex too much, especially when "aired-down" for off-road use, and the sidewalls are easily damged by rocks when running low pressure. I am the only one who did not suffer tire damage this summer during an off road Baja trip from Laguna Chapala to San Felipe. I was running stock BFG 265 E's, the other trucks (one a macho-man lifted truck with 35 inch tires) both lost tires to sidewall cuts, both had D-rated tires.
A Duramax Diesel didn't finish the trip either, but that's another story.
Firestone just switched out my 5 Ds for Es. They seem more stable. Possibly it's because they are new. I was going to go to Yokohamas in 285X75X16. Just can't beat the price of staying with the Firestones. They won't let you size up, though.

You would think… as difficult as it is, for the sale of Stones, they would work to get you the tires of desire ...customer service/support, something Firestone could do a bit more of.
I was lucky and was eligible for the tire recall when I bought my 2002 X. The truck had 17K miles and was PERFECT and loaded with options.. So how could I resist new tires!! I worked with Firestone regional manager and got one of the best tires around.. The Bridgeston Dueller REVO's in load E. I keep them at 60 for city and 75 -80 for towing... The traction in wet conditions is wonderful. I will let you know about snow soon.. In my neck of the woods, winter is looong...
the REVOS are quiet too and have excellent ratings from both industry and consumers.. Please note that part of the reason for the recall was that the load D was insufficient for this beast!
An interesting note, the formoer owner turned out to live 2 blocks from me.. he saw the truck, followed me and we met in a parking lot.. He loved this truck and this weekend he stopped by my house.. he said he wished he had never sold it.. I feel good knowing the guy that owned it before me felt the same as I do about this great vehicle...
I have the R4S II tires. I did drive it again today and it feels a little stiffer. Firestone replaced the Steeltexs on my Suburban also. I had peeled two of them in one week. This set of tires was not a problem to the point where I changed them. EX has 49,000 miles. Firestone was very good about both situations. I had put Bilsteins on already and will order a Helwig this week. Anyone have any idea who has the cheapest price delivered in FL.
