I'm about 100% sure that my signal light switch is shot in my 78. Called Napa and they had nothing in the books for this year. Since I have a couple of extra trucks right now, I pulled the wheel and checked out the switch. The Haynes manual was of no use as it described some method of seperating the switch to get to the wire connections. I can see no way to do this as the whole thing appears to be riveted together. I know some of you must have had to face this repair before and am desperate for information on how to go about it. I've put the wheel back on (I need something to drive), but am left with no signal lights (the four way flashers do work) and need to get them fixed asap so I can get an inspection (certification) sticker on my truck. Thanks to all who can help me out.
The switch and the wires throught the column are one piece. Disconnect the wires at base of column and remove the wires from connector and all will slide out column. The red center of the connector slides out and you can use a small pic or wire to release each of the wire connectors (be sure to make a note of the wire locations).
There is a tech article about testing/repairing lights, might want to check it out.

When you remove the old switch, use the old wires to pull a string up the column so you can pull the new wires down the column. I usually use a string that is 2x as long as the column and put a slipknott in the middle. then I can pull the string back and forth. 1 string does all the wires a single wire at a time.
