hey everyone. i haven't been here in a while. yesterday as we were going to the store, there was a strange noise under the hood. we kept driving home since we were so cloase but when we got home, we popped the hood and saw that the belt between the alernator and the vacuum pump was gone. upon further investigation as to why this happened, we discovered that the vacuum pump had seized up solid. we went and bought a new one today but it didn't come with the pulley so we had to remove the old pulley and put it on the new one (which cannot be done with basic hand tools and we dont know where to get it done. any suggestions would be appreciated.) and once we get it on i would like to know if anyone knows the belt size?
Get a puller for power steering pulleys, same thing. It should come with a bolt to pull it on the new pump.
we found a bolt that threads in the new one and we tried pulling it on but the pump was spinning. if we bolted it on the motor, and put a belt on, would that stop the spinning enough to tighten it?
Ok, I had a 86 F-250 4x2 & the best way to help w/these problem's is install a vac. gauge under dash .Find out what what is min. vac on the engine & max may very. that will help on break down's on vac. pump's. On auto trans it kills em, vacshift module will not shift right and it will burn out your trans. before you know been there done that. It happens so slowly over time you won't notice. Gauge's are under $20.00 Chepper than other things. Installed reman engine at 472,000 miles. Don
Did you get a puller and all the extra pieces?
Just a bolt and washer will not work to pull it on.
With the right tools you should be able to hold the pulley with your hand while you pull it on.
The puller I got for power steering pulleys would not go on in the concave vacuum pump pulley till I took a grinder to it.
At AutoZone, you can borrow the pulley puller/installer tool.
They have quite a few tools you can use this way, you pay for it, and then when you bring it back you get all your money back, even if it breaks.
If you want to keep it, you already paid for it.
Good deal!
