but I went to the ford website to get information on the extended warranty. I put the vin in an got an error saying that this vehicle already has an extended warranty associated with it, but they didn't say what it was or give a number to call. We just bought this used, can any Ford dealer tell me what it has left and if there is extended? When I took it in for the rear diff, they just said that it had 19k of the 36k left. If it had the extended would it show longer than the basic in the system or do they keep it seperate?
Interesting- your vehicle was originally sold with what we call RentalCare. It pays for a rental car ($28/ day, up to 5 days) any time the vehicle is in for service under the original 36/36 bumper-to-bumper warranty. This only pays for a rental car, it doesn't provide any additional warranty coverage. But Ford's computer can't differentiate from a regular warranty, so that's why it's showing up. BTW, your factory warranty is good till March 15, 2006, or 36000 miles, whichever comes first.
Is that rentalcare transferrable? No extended warranty, oh well. I may purchase an extended warranty anyway. We've had it for a 2 weeks, now it needs a rear diff, the front brakes have started to pulse and the rear doors have started to rattle when we go over bumps. We have a 2000 Durango that rides like hell on long trips, but doesn't rattle. I was expecting more from a car that the orginal MSRP was $50k. Thanks so much for looking!!
It depends. If you bought the vehicle directly from the original owner, the person who purchased the RentalCare, then he can transfer it to you ($25 or $50 transfer fee, I don't remember which). If you bought it from a dealer, then any Ford Extended Warranty is no longer transferrable. All the dealer can do is cancel it for the original guy, and he'll get a pro-rated refund.
