Insuring modified/custom vehicles?

Has anyone had experience insuring modified non-stock vehicles? I have Gecko, and they won't touch a non-original vehicle. I converted my '93 Escort to stick shift, and when an unconcious and uninsured women T-boned it, the adjustor noticed that it should have had an automatic! They paid, but if it were a Ranger with a 5.0, I'll bet they would have walked. I'd like to build something interesting, but I'd have to find another insurance company...

Hagerty is one company that will insure it for what it is worth, not for what it books at, just have to document it.I don't think they do the newer vehicles like that, they are more classic vehicles, but I know there are some that do, hafe to look into it. Geico sucks, they have false advertising, i didn't save anything with them, cut my cost by $50 a month by going to to State Farm Mutual. I fought with them for 3 months to get my truck insured, and the idiots never did get it insured.
