Unhappy Lost Cell Phone

Well, after 11 months, it finally happend. I lost my cell phone. It was clipped to my belt when I walked into the movie theater, and it wasn't there when I hopped into my truck. No one can seem to find it. I even tried working the charm on some cute girls that worked there and they said they'd try their hardest to find it but I have my doubts. Anyone ever lose one? I'm sure I'm not the only one, but I don't know what to do. My dad de-activated it, but how much would a replacement cost? I'm freaking out here....

do a search on ebay for the type of phone you had....you can probably get one cheaper than from the phone company...there might be a $5-20.00 charge to re-activate it.

Coupla years ago, a woman going to work one night at a restaurant next to our shop, got car-jacked just as she was getting out of her car. Numnutz, the carjacker, grabbed her purse and hit her in the face with his pistol. She lost her eye from the injury, but the ace criminal merely went down the street and bellied up to a bar with all his booty, which included her cell phone. Cops called him up, traced him down, and jumped all over him.

Not related to the thread, I know, but it makes me feel good about a little bit of justice - maybe it will make somebody smile.

I lost a cell phone years ago. One of the first Motorola flip phones. Had it on the roof of my car, and I drove away. Ha ha. Never did find it. Anyway, it would depend on the phone you got, and what kind of deal you got to get it. I had to pay $500 just for a replacement back then, when the plan I got gave it to me for free.

My bro-in-law didn't exactly lose his, but he dropped it in the lake, and for some reason it just wouldn't work after that. It took my sister a bit of arguing with US Cellular, but she got it replaced for about 50 bucks, I believe. They were trying to charge them around 200 bucks, part of that being a deposit which was stupid since they already had an existing service. I hope I'm relating this correctly, when she was telling me about it she was pretty agitated and some of the details probably got a bit mixed up in the translation. -TD

If you are not important, you do not need a cell phone. Is there nothing better to do than spend hours a day gabbing on the phone? You all have trucks, go work on them!

I carry a pre-paid phone in my car for emergencies or if I get really lost somewhere and need directions. In the past year I have used it maybe 6 times. I am not important.

My wifes father is a surgeon and he actually needs his.

You dont have to be important to have a cell phone. Like anything else it is a convenience. Just happens that I am in sales and cover 5 states so mine is used for biz mostly, but my kids have them and it does give me peace of mind in that I can reach them whenever.

Can they be abused, yeah, just like anything else. BUT, a person's importance or need has nothing to do with it in the real world, lol.

I broke mine, so I just bought one off of Ebay and put the Sim card in. But I'm guessing since you lost it you'll probably have to go get a new Sim card.

I was doing mach 9 through the desert in my sand rail and my cell phone fell out of my pocket. When I got back to my truck after about a 20 mile loop it wasn't there. I figured atleast one of the 15 rails that were there that day had to have ran it over. I called a few times from a friend's phone just incase anyone found it they would have a number to reach on the missed call log. Sure enough a guy on a dirtbike found it and called the friend's number two days later, just before the battery died. Figure the odds of that! It was out in the middle of nowhere. It's not hopeless, you may have an honest person find it, but I would call the provider and have them diable the phone after a day or two.
The insurance seems like a rip off but it did save me on my latest phone. My fiance washed it. It cost me $50 to get refurbished phone to replace it. It's a one time use insurance. Well I geuss it is a rip off because the replacement phone has turned out to be junk. Well it could be the crappy Verizon service that I have...

at Cingular its 5.99 a month for insurance, and a 50 dollar deductable.
I have had trouble w/ my phone for years and i finally actually broke it.
I left it in the back of my truck and my brother drove it.... its amazing what a 351W head can do to a cell phone
They wouldn't replace it w/ another phone. I hated that phone and didnt want to spend 50 bucks on a new one.
So, I got out the old old nokia phone. The one EVERYONE had years ago
Just had the service switched to it until next June when my contract runs out and im eligible for a free phone.

Also, Ebay does have some good deals on phones. but MAKE SURE that the phone is compatible w/ your provider

Coming from a person who has lost 3 phones, my best advice is:

1. Buy the insurance - 3 bux a month (with Verizon anyways) comes nothing close to having to buy a new $150-250 phone. The deductible I pay is 30 bux, and they usually ship me a new phone within 48 hours.

2. Have some kind of data sync - Replacing alll your data can be a PITA. I learned that the first time. Now I sync my phone nightly, and it actually charges while syncing data. Phone numbers, calendar, messages, etc. all saved to my laptop/desktop at while I sleep. Now I don't care if I lose a phone, just connect it up to the data cable and load up all the info

About 8-9 months ago, my boxer chewed up my wife's phone. The store wanted $250 for a new one. I checked on ebay and got an almost new one for $85. Just make sure it is compatable w/ your provider.

Boss50: I know how you feel, it sucks so bad!!!! I have had my phone stolen once, ran over once, and lost 3 times...

I have been with Nextel Service/Phones for over 3 years now. I believe they are the best cell phone companies out there for the insurance...

2.99 a month for FULL protection, If you lose it, if it gets stolen, or anything where it doesn't work anymore, you pay a 30 dollar deductable and get a new one back in a week. Also they have a nice feature that if you lose the phone and you don't have your SIM card anymore they can transfer all your phone numbers to your new phone!

Good luck Boss50, I know it is a pain in the butt!

I am LUCKY!!

I have lost my phone twice in the four plus years, the second time today! Both times, someone has found it, and been honest!

First time I dropped in in the parking lot on front of my store, and a homeless gentleman found it, and did a last call redial. That call just happened to be to my store! I gave him a $20 reward, and felt cheap about it too. The call to be was the only call he made too. I wouldn't have minded him using it some before returning it....

Today, when I realized it was missing, I called my own number and a girl answered. Seems a customer at her store found it on the sidewalk, turned it over to her. She is a customer of mine, so I am going to give her some kind of reward as well.

As I said, I AM LUCKY!!!!
