creating a gallery-can use help!

after i upload my pictures and go to my gallery, all i see is a tiny sliver of 1 picture. i'm thinking maybe the files are too big. thinking about changing pixels on camera and redoing. any suggestions, i am not overly computer savvy. still learning. i tried to upload 4 pictures, each 1 about 850 kb. too much? and if so, tell me how to make them smaller. thanks
