5.0 EFI Swap?

Hello,
This is my first post but I have read many and love this forum. I recently bought a 1987 F-150 4x4 with a 5.0 EFI. This truck had sat for about 2 years and needs help. Some of the wiring has been eaten or rotted away in the engine compartment. How difficult is it to remove the EFI and related computer and replace with a carb.? I have worked on engines in the past but I am not familure with fuel injection. I do not initially want to put too much money into this, just a beater, as it is I have to replace the fuel pumps and hope that it starts. Any replies would be appreciated.

man, i had to crack open a beer just to think about this one!

here goes, i see you are in michigan, how rusty is truck? was it stored outside?

i would drain tank, maybe even have it flushed or replaced.

think you would be better off trying to replace wiring harness with junkyard donor parts. take a digital camara and keep good notes on everything..

does engine rotate? i would remove plugs, pour some marvel mystery oil in cylinders, put new oil in, motorcraft filter, start with 5w30 oil

tell us more about truck and maybe we can help.

how are rotors, universals, brakes?

what trans?

good luck. done with my beer!

Replacing the EFI stuff is easy ifr you go carbed. The fuel delivery will be the only real concern for you.

Then just change the intake, distributor and ignition and you should be ok. Granted this is a very very brief overall description.

Ok well how rusty is the truck....Michigan and sat for a couple of years need I say more. Actually it is not that bad all things considered. Normal panels need to be replaced but front fenders and inside of bed are actually good. The engine does rotate and will try to fire with starter fluid sprayed into the intake hose. The universals look good and don't seem to have play in them. Have not looked at the rotors or brakes (kinda scared to). The truck has a 4 speed manual that seems to at least for now go into all the gears. The engine compartment is dusty dirty and all the wiring is the same color now. This makes quick identification somewhat umm...hopeless and I never was good at notes. One side note, the previous owner bought it to fix and drive but never did (that's where it sat for 2 years), the owner before him was driving it and the oil pressure dropped out. The pump was replaced but still had low pressure. A mechanic told him it was the bearings and not the sending unit so he parked it (for 1 year) and that is where I am at. Wow...
