I have steam cleaned and washed a lot of my carpets and it doesn't really make a difference. If there is odor, you want to get something to kill that but if just dirt, a good steam and vacuum using any off the shelf should do fine.

If you have any really bad spots then spray a little simple green on them-rub with hot water/brush if necessary. I steam clean mine once a year.

Without a doubt, the BEST cleaner (for spots/stains anyway) is Spot-Shot - blue/orange spray can - Lowes has it for about $4/can - it is VERY good stuff for grease/oil/rust/just about any stain you might encounter!

Yes it is great, but remember that you will not be driving for a while when using it due to odor. (It is VERY powerful in an enclosed enviorment)

I do it at night and leave the windows down in the garage. Dry and clean in the morning.

The way that I have had success with Spot-Shot is to use a damp cloth and a dry cloth approach. Spray the area and let is soak in for about two or three minutes and then take your damp cloth and rum the area. Once you feel that it is completely cleaned, take the dry cloth and clean the area. Keep switching cloths as they get dirty and they WILL get dirty. In about thirty to forty minutes it will be clean and you will have had a good workout. Hope this helps.

Very bad spots like oil-then simply rub in some "mechanic" hand cleaner like gojo. Simple green is very good and smells ok-I just take the entire mat out of my car and completely soak it with water and scrub away-use a shop vac to suck it dry and leave in sun or in house overnight.

Blue Coral Carpet cleaner. Just let it foam for a while, then scrub with a carpet brush. Doesn't smell too toxic and you'll be amazed at the stains that will come out.

I've been using Blue Coral's carwash soap for years and have been happy with it. Anyone know of a reason not to use it?

Thanks,
Scott

I have three children 7, 4, and a 1 year old, you talk about stains!!! When I take my expy to the car wash I use the sprayer at the wash to clean my floor mats and that has worked for me for three years, I first spray blue coral on then hose them down and sun dry. I have also had to take out the seats and the carpet and I used the power washer along with the blue coral, I hung the entire carpet over the swing set let it dry over night and the carpet stains were gone odor was gone and it looked almost brand new! Its a lot of work but it has to be done. New carpet will run anywhere from 250 to 350 dollars if you want to go that route, but the car wash is my best friend. Good luck
