I bought auto meter Ultra lite gauges yesterday and I was looking at their instructions since i've never hooked boost or pyrometers up before, well i noticed the boost comes with a 1/8" and 1/4" adapter that would thread into somewhere. Well where does this go? I was thinking I'd get a T adapter to hook to a vacuum line or something? This is a 0-35lb gauge, its not the vacuum/boost gauge, it says in the instructions that if it were the vacuum/boost gauge it would have the T fitting. Can someone shed some light on this one? The pyrometer looks easy so thats no problem.
Also where are you guys hooking your trans temp gauges to? Just looking for a good easy spot to put that. Thanks
The Boost gauge is mush easier to hook up than the Pyro. This is what I did. I went to the local auto parts store and bought a copper tubing kit to replace the plastic/nylon tubing that came with the gauge. The kit had the ferrules
that I needed and I put together my own tee. I screwed in hose barbs with hose clamps on both sides of the tee to go into the map sensor line. I then plumbed in the gauge line to the top and that was that. I put the tee in where the hose comes out of the "spider". The hardest part was putting the pillar pod in place with the copper tubing hooked to the gauge.
Hope this helps.
Ok I found a website that has instructions and it helped. Also what you said made sense. I was looking and where is the map line? I can't find it. My truck is a 96 also.

put your hand on the oil filler cap, move it straight towards the passenger side fender, you will run into a sensor mounted on a bracket, that is the map sensor. there is a hose connected to it that runs to the intake, that is what you tee into
Next is the paint to paint the new a-pillar piece. I went to a ford dealership and they said they don't sell anything and local places dont have it. I know theres some sites online that sell it, anyone have an address?

sorry about that. after i posted the link i said to myself i should have sent him to motorhaven, in fact i will change it if i still can. i will say i have the pod that had to be painted and the paint is not holding up very well i have to touch it up every so often
...there thats better
couldn't find them on motorhaven, and I need just the paint, already have the auto meter pod.
You can follow above advice, or go back to your dealer (most of the parts guys are truly uninformed, sadly) and tell them to look up the numbers under Motorcraft Performance. You can indeed buy color-keyed interior spray paint from your dealer--I've done it. The part numbers are not "Ford" though, but rather MP, so most parts guys don't even know about it.
I installed the gauges today, used a clamp style set up for the pyro instead of taping it, i'll probably switch to a tap later on because i think its leaking exhaust alittle right there. Other then that its all good.
Quick question though, I drove it around the block, trans temp is about 120, egt's go up from 300 to 500 when i got on it some but boost didn't move at all. Then in neutral i reved it to about 2800-3000rpm and it went up to 2lbs. That sound right? I have a cold air intake only at the moment for mods. Just thought the boost would be higher, it stays at 0 almost all the time. I'll have to double check to see if theres a leak. Would the check engine light come on if the gauge was leaking since it taps into the map sensor?
I prefer the auto meter gauges. ISSPRO's look kinda cheap and are more i think (at least from what i've seen). I got the ultra lites which are silver and they have a green light so they matched my interior and gauges already. Autometer is a very good company that i've used for my race car also and never had a problem. I had $260 in the gauges and gauge pod and bought it all threw summit racing.
Which gauges from that brand name do you guys use? I see where a lot of people are talking about the boost gauge but what other gauges do you recommend?
