I have a 1990 Bronco XLT with the 302 V8. When ever i turn the A/C on, the engine dies. If i'm driving its fine, but once i put the clutch in, the engine RPM's slow down to idle, but then it dies. This has left me if a bad situation more than once in heavy traffic, and let me say, its scary having to restart your truck doin 55+.
Anyways, i was wondering if maybe ther's a sensor that's supposed to kick up the idle when the A/C turns on that might not be working. If thats the case, where would i find it? Also, if you think it might be something else let me know.
try this, with carb spray, remove air tube to throttle body and clean throttle body(open throttle plate to clean backside). get running, probally will be flooded, hold to floor to clear it. shut it off and disconnect iac connector(to the back ofTB.,start engine and set idle with stop screw to about 500-550 rpm.plug connector back in,let it idle down,(may need to disconnect bat for 5 min.) and drive ,may fix it and may not but worth a try.good luck
First I'll apologize for my vagueness. My 88 Bronco did the same thing. There is a sensor by the throttle body that increases the rpm's to make up for the engine drag from the a/c. I believe it is the idle air control solenoid. I bought a new one from a parts store and it fixed my problem. If you know a mechanic and ask him he may be able to give you the correct name of the part. Hope this helps.
