i am looking at a new F-150 S-crew 4x4 Loaded lariat with the 40/20/40 tan bench seat. i have been told by several people that the leather in these truck / this color are easily marked up / damage / discolored. What i mean by marked up is by jeans sliding back and forth getting in and out of the truck, and normal use, NOT ABUSING the seat. I am very easy on a truck and will baby this truck around just like every other truck i have owned.
I had an 01' F-150 Lariat S-cab and had this leather color and did not experience this issue with it. I just wanted to ask some people on that own the new 04' models and see what they have noticed... ANY help would be greatly apperciated!!
I have the tan (just this side of white) leather. Now I've only had it for about 1100 miles but I wear jeans daily and it is my daily driver. I haven't noticed a thing. The seats look absolutely perfect. I do have two cheap covers for when I am excessively grungy making dump runs etc but other than that just regular treatment. The seats have absolutely no sign of wear or color change.
I have 6,000 miles and have had my truck with the tan leather for about 4 months. I have noticed that my jeans have dis-colored the bottom of the seat back. I bought seat covers at cabelas and plan to keep them covered most of the time.
just wipe them down once a week thats all you need, almost all leather will get marked up unless its black then it gets pretty dusty. our other 2 cars ahve brown and gray lather and jeans rub off on them too. keep them clean and use some of the leather cleaners and preservers they got out and maintence will be a lot easier. i dont think the manufacturers are sealing them as well as they used to; back when only the real luxury cars came with leather and it was still a pricey option back then.
I have the Tan and clean it with Meguiars Leather cleaner about once a month. I have had my truck since Nov 03, it now has 11,500 miles. If you wear blue jeans they will discolor the area where you slide in and out of the seat, but it cleans up easly with Meguiars cleaner. My seats still look like new.
I guess ATCS puts it to rest with the 11,500 miles, but I'll add I'm at 3,000 miles and have spilled sodas and stuff on the seats, wear jeans. They wipe up clean as new.
I have the tan leather and am having a hard time keeping clean and tear-free. 9000 miles and have one small tear and one mark that wont come up. Rest of the family has Heavy Duties w/ leather and theirs is more durable and seem thicker. Anyone know how to repair a tear?
I've got the tan leather and 12,000 miles later (I'm easy on it too), I have no problems. They do get dirty pretty easy...but I only clean my seats every month or so. It's not THAT bad. If you plan on getting dirty and then sitting in your seat, I'd go for black...but normal use is fine with the tan. I get blue jean 'stains' in them occasionally, but it's very easy to clean off with a damp rag and some leather conditioner/cleaner. Works for me
Leather will actually clean a lot better than cloth in many instances. If you spill or get mud on leather it wipes up pretty easily, but with cloth...fugggeddaboudit.
I wasn pulling for the leather seats, but the wife complains about sticking to them in the summer and being cold in the winter. I tried the "well they have heated seats now" pitch and that failed too. I guess she plans on driving it more than she let on!
