Brake Upgrade

I did a search to find anyone who has done a brake upgrade on an Ex but came up dry. It must be here somewhere. Anybody know?

Depends on what you mean by an upgrade.... I replaced the OEM rotors and pads with those from Applied Rotor Technology (link) , They provide much better stopping power. After 25k miles, I am still very happy with them.

Anything to get more stopping power including caliber and/or master cylinder swaps.

Thanx for the advice on the rotors and pads. I'll add that to the list....cheers.

Snake oil?

I was checking the Advance Rotor Technolgy site to see what makes their rotor/pads so good.

Cryogenic tempering?

I've checked with friends...one in the tool and die business, another one a metalurgist for a mining company. Neither one has ever heard of cryogenic modification of metal. Even liquid nitrogen at -197 degrees F has no lasting affect on metal.

Sooo...anyone know the story on these rotors?

Just another option if you havent already bought rotors,

4wheelparts.com has a sale on Power Slot rotors with Hawk brake pads for 257.99 for the pair. The sale ends September 30th.

Regarding the cryogenic rotors, has anyone experienced a reduction in the rotor warping typically found with the stock rotors?

I don't believe the makeup of the rotors has much to do with the warp problem. Ford seems to have found the primary cause of rotor warp to be the over-torquing of the lug nuts. I got over 50k miles from the OEM rotors without much warp and I'm almost 25k on the ART rotors. I'm regularly towing almost 10k pounds and feel strongly that the ART rotors/pads have much improved stopping power.

Thanks for the info. I will probably order a set of front rotors and pads today.
You mentioned over-torquing of the lug nuts, did you adjust your torque to lower than specified or do you just make sure that the torque is at the limit specified?

In addition to slotted rotors and performance brake pads, is stainless braided hose a necessary option? Thanks
