How can I read Fords TSB's. I checked out the TSB's though this sites link to NHTSA. I saw several I'd like to read. One is about a water leak that may damage the ani-theft system. Cost me about $600, dealer never found the leak. Now I find a TSB on it?? (It's a '93 LTD and the problem was last fall. Right after I bought it!!)
My next question would be: What does a TSB mean to the consumer in this case? Do I still have to pay for repairs that Ford knows is factory or enginerring related?
TSB's are not always problems to be repaired under warrenty or any kind of recalls. They are document put out to the servicing dealers on problems that are reaccuring on specific models. Sometimes the manufactureres come up with certain replacment parts to repair these problems described in the tsb's. Personally, i feel alot of these problems should be put through recal and shouldn't cost the consumer money, but that's the way it is. I own a power equipment sales/service shop. For example, in the past week, i've had to call 5 customer and explain to them that there is a tsb on installing a new belt engage kit on there snowblower....which they are resposible for footing the estimated hundred dollar bill for. It's either i put in the update kit or they use it as a snow plow because it won't throw the snow the way it is set up.
That kida makes me feel better. At least I know I didnt get cheated. I would have had to pay anyway. Altough I think the dealer should have known about the problem I had. I doubt they even looked for a TSB.
So how can I read more then just a summery?
you may be able to get a full report of the tsb from ford if you give the the tsb number. I know in my industry, the tsb's are sent to the dealers only. If a customer asked me to check on one for their unit, myself, i would be happy to give them as much info as i could. But in dealing with any service department, you know yourself, they won't even tell you what touch up paint to use for your vehicle unless they bring it in the shop and decipher the color codes on the id stick and charge an hours labor!!
