E40d Transmission

New to the RV world... on our last trip from Jax, MS to Gatlinburg TN, pulling a 5,000 lbs load with a 1990 Ford F250 7.3 L Diesel with E40D noticed trans leak 1/2 cup of fluid @ fuel stop in Birmingham AL,. Let cool for 2 hours and moved on ... no apparent problems... Trip home different story. Began leaking trans fluid again... at the same spot going home, Birm. AL. total trip is about 500 were about 1/2 way ... a friend towed trailer home and we drove my truck 150 miles with overdrive OFF ... and no load at the advice of another friend.

I replaced this transmission in Oct. 2001 with a "crate" trans from Ford thinking this would solve my problem. the Other trans began the same behavior. The old trans had 97,000 miles and previous owner pulled a 11,000 lbs 5th wheel a short distances for local camping. The replacement trans has about 22,000 and I pull a 4,000 lbs travel trailer. I bought the truck used at 97,000 miles. .... someone indicated that these trans had a recall on them ....... that my replacement trans probably did not include any updates..???? that Ford had an assembly plant in the Midwest and they didn't includ the updates on even the "Ford rebuilt trans".

Need advice on next step .... since I just spend 5,000 painting and fixing up this truck (looks great!) but I need it to tow my load an cruise about 65mph on the interstate.
