Having problems locating the #1 oxygen sensor on a '96 Explorer wth a 4.0 L engine. My guess is that it's located just in front of the ignition coil and has a hex nut to capture the elecrical connector, and a braided metal jachet over the cable. Am I in the right location? This is what the Ford Vacuum/electrical manual seems to indicate.
The HO2S1 sensor is located halfway down the passenger side exaust header pipe. A real treat to get at if you don't have a lift. You are looking at the fuel pressure regulator don't want to disconnect that. On this engine metal braid signifies a fuel line.
Thanks for the help. Check engine light came on just before Ohio E-check which now simply looks for the light for pass/fail. Based on the Autozone diag report, problem was sensor #1. Based on their report, I incorrectly located and replaced sensor #3, which wasn't too bad to reach. Good news is the light stayed off long enough to pass e-check, but came back on a while later. The Kelm manual indicates that it's in the location I described, but I didn't see anything I could access that looked like it was mounted on the exhaust side. I'll take a look underneath. I already owe this forum a fortune for the blend door fix.
