Has anyone heard of REO trucks?

Now THOSE pic's I would love to see...

But not as much as I'd love to hear that someone capable grabbed it and began restoring it!

This all is about the very old days of trucking, and that period in America was somethin' special....

Further on that:

You can see an example of a restored REO built in 1922 at this link:

These old REO's are very popular with collectors and restorers. You may have stumbled onto something that may be worth a few bucks.

1978 F-150 flareside. Primitive by todays standards but she was a jaw dropper back then. :-staun

That REO is literally buried in. Must have been there at least 40 years. I'm surprised that tire is still holding air.

We've got a guy in Byron, N.Y. that collects REO trucks. You can usually find several at the Western New York Historical Truck show in Batavia, NY in early August.
From what I understand, the old car that Columbo used to drive in the show was a REO convertible. The REO's were sold in the early '50's by Sears through their catalogs.
Just some trivia...

Just FYI, the REO Speedwagon was an early firetruck, so named (according to legend) because of it's speed. Don't think it would hold a candle to a modern E-One or the like, but back in the 20's it was a racer

REO

REO is the Ransom E. Oldsmobile company. After Ransom Oldsmobile sold his company to General Motors, he started another company and could not use the Oldsmobile name as he sold it to GM, hensefoth REO was born.

I sent numberdummy a PM. Hopefully he'll weigh in as I consider him to be the system expert at auto history among other things.

From NumberDummy via PM,

The Olds Motor Works was founded in Lansing MI in 1897.

Because Olds' financial backers wanted to concentrate on luxury cars, he left the company and started a new one: REO = Ransom Eli Olds.

The financial backers soon went broke, and Billy Durant who owned Buick, bought Olds for peanuts, then he bought Cadillac.

After Durant bought Olds, he changed the company name from the Buick Motor Car Co. to General Motors.
