I have a '89 F250, 4x4 v8 302, low miles (43k) problem I have is that I can't shift it into 4 low. Sprayed the linkage, and that didn't help. Shifts into 4 high no problem. I went by what is says to do on the visor to get it in 4 wheel drive. Could this be a transfercase problem? Or could it be that since this truck wasn't used much ( more than likely 4 low was never used) that its just stuck from lack of use?

Thanks for the help.
Have you tried moving the truck back and forth in nuetral without the truck running.Have a 78 bronco w/auto trans and it work itself free.
Thanks for the responces. I'll be under the truck in the morning, and get abetter look at it. I did spray it, maybe it needs to soak in a bit. I'll post what I find out.
I read Parks911 earlier post and agree... My 1994 F350 had the same issue from lack of use and the only way to fix it was to get the part from Ford. (some monkeybrained fool actually snapped the linkage trying to get it in 4x4 before I bought the truck). It's supposedly a re-designed piece with a sleeve between the bolt that acts as the pivot and the shift linkage assmebly but is super pricey!
I slid the sleeve off and lubed it before reassembling and re-installing. After 8 months of essentially "non-use", it still moves smoothly. Good luck!
