I picked up this 1976 f250 3/4 that has a dog 360 an big tires and... no power steering. The bod is great any hints on a restore? Im thinking of a 390 from engine rebuilders in Spokane WA--- Dont have a clue as to power steering the tires will be the easiest part
you can get power steering setups from the sponsors on here or go visit a junkyard. any setup from 73-79 will work as long as its the same weight class. as far as the 390, its a bolt in. i personally am going with the 460. it's more work but i'm getting close.
CrazyH, is your truck 2 or 4 wheel drive? If it is 2 wheel drive, I can tell you how to put power steering on it. That is very simple, but depending on your wrecking yard scrounging abilities may be a little expensive. The 390 is a good upgrade over the 360. About 4 years ago I had a 75 F250 with the 390, and a friend of mine had a 73 F250 with the 360. My truck had a lot more guts, and got about 2 miles per gallon better fuel mileage. His truck was manual steering with the big tires, it was a bear to drive and even worse to try to park in close quarters. We switched it over to power steering. It was a bolt on deal with factory parts and very straight forward and easy. It took about 2 1/2 to 3 hours to make the swap. Send me an email or private message if your near central Texas. I have a complete 390 and everything that you need to swap to P/S.

Hman in Montana
If its Hitech Motor works out of spokane, I will vouch for their quality, bought my 390 from them last year, and runs awesome, with no leaks. Had it on my shops door step the next morning too!
If you like the FE, you may want to go with a 410 or 428. The 410 is a 390 with the 428 crank. I currently have a 390 in my 76 F-250 SuperCab (this truck weights 5800#)the engine has been pro built, and blue printed. Its goin in my Model A with the FE tripower set up. I plan on installing a propane powered 460 with twin turbochargers in the next year or so.
