Lightbulb Rebuilt Advice

hi Guys,
i posted this here already in a different forum, but i think i get a better result here :-)

im trying to gather some ideas and prices for a possible rebuilt on my engine.
its an 1989 351Windsor fuel injection and 317000mls. currently i run 3 to 5psi of oilpressure on a hot day)
i need the truck for pulling, long distance, fairly decent fuel-milage and long reliability. i do not want to built a racetruck, but like to be able to go with about 70mph down the interstate, pulling a 30ft traveltrailer, (currently i go about 65 with no trailer, so my engine stays alive).

any ideas on what parts i should use ? what Cam ? rebuilding my fuelinjection or change to carb? different pistons ? head-mods? and so on... where to buy those parts inexpensive ? or where to find a longblock for my needs ?
any advice helps

thanks
stefan

I can't give you too many specifics but the gang here can offer up some mild upgrades. Just a plain ol' rebuild will give you back a lot of performance. For a rebuild, expect to spend a good $2500-$3000. If you go the remaned long block, it's a lot less and you generally have a nice warranty. Some of the local autoparts stores will be able to help you out there, and some offer a mild build up too, for a few more $$.

i rebuilt my 90 5.0 with lunati camshaft and edelbrock intake and exhaust. I want to try the heads they offer to see if that will add some good power. runs great with more power and a little better mileage. keep the injection although it is usually more expensive to build an injected engine.

Here is a camshaft suggestion that will work with the stock computer. Comp Cams - E.F.I. Speed Density, works w/stock computer, Very strong torque, Excellent mileage, good idle quality. operating range; 1000 to 5200 rpm's, camshaft part number 35-255-5, cam grind number XE254H, duration at .050 intake 210 exhaust 214, valve lift w/1.6 rocker intake .478 exhaust .485, lobe separation angle 114 deg.
If I were you, I would also find a set of aftermarket heads such as the Roush 180 heads. If you get the Roush 180 heads keep in mind you will need to change pistons to keep the compression at 9:1 or 9:5:1. Keith Black hypereutectic pistons (KB-181) will yield a nice streetable compression.

Or you can keep the heads that are on it and have the machine shop port them.
