I have an AN/PVS 14 Monocular on quick disconnects for my helmet and a QD ARMS scope mount to switch to my AR. It is very clear up to about 300 yards, and can visibly make shapes at 500+ yards. I wanted the monocular so I would have one eye that would stay adjusted to the night, and with the lens screwed all the way back (1x magnification) it is just as natural as plain sight.
I would strongly recommend this unit if it is going to be used for any kind of medium or heavy duty service. All of the new Gen III PVS's have built-in delay shutoffs that will turn off the intesifier tubes in damaging lights until the light is no longer seen.
These will set you back about 2200 bucks...
If you want to spend more, they have the GEN IV stuff out now, but its in the 3500 plus price range...but it would have to be lethal.
