I just swapped my 302 for a 351 Windsor in my 89 F-150 and it has been running good for the first 800 miles. Yesterday, I started having trouble with it missing and stalling and it's spitting out some black smoke in the exhaust. I think it's getting worse, now I can hardly turn without it stalling because the strain of the power steering pump is too much for it. I checked a couple plugs and they are pretty fouled up with soot. If anyone has any ideas, please let me know.
The engine is Jasper remanufactured and I bought a brand new Edelbrock intake manifold (EFI), a stock distributor, the air filter is a K&N intake kit. I'm still using the old computer, throttle body, fuel injectors, and sensors.
Nah, the distributor is tight and I'm pretty sure the ignition timing is right. Today I replaced the fuel pressure regulator and oxygen sensor with no significant improvement. The idle speed fluctuates constantly and frequently stalls whether in Park or Drive. Even at higher RPM's I notice a little misfiring or rough running.
