They will fit, as mentioned... but the bed mounts have to be relocated right?
I have 74 or so front disks/spindles etc on my truck, and the big drums from the later 70s trucks... easy to di, and didnt have to take the body off the truck.
Me thinks 65 thru 72 have the narrow chassis while 73 to 79 have wider version.
It's due to placement of fuel tank being moved from in cab to in-frame at rear behind rear Axle. Also 73-79 have extra 2" WB length. Difference is in rear part of cab, altho' cab mounts still align & hit right on.
71 frame is not much of an upgrade compared to later 73-79 version. As mentioned 73- 79s have disc brakes, better power steering (generally speaking) rear mounted, in frame fuel tank, slightly wider rear rail spacing and so forth. IMHO it's worth the extra effort to move on up a couple years to the later style chassis.
