I did multiple search's couldnt find a thing. When I bought my truck the guy told me there was a crimp in the o ring of the fuel sending unit & not to fill it up to full or it would leak.Today I took it off to fix it & the o ring is shot all I need is a new one but cant find one. Its the metal tank with the locing ring set up the o ring is about five inches in diameter. Where to find one autozone & advance had not a clue. THNx
I had the same problem with my plastic replacement tank. Fortunately the mfr. sent me another one. Your best bet is to take the gasket(it's not really an o-ring, because it's cross section is not round) to your Ford dealer, and have him match it up. While you're there, get two. You never know what might happen to the first one.
Mine is actually an O ring only it has two guide notches on each side. I went to the hardware store thinking long shot. Then for a $1.06 they had sink strainer washer perfect fit. I dont know how well it will hold up to gas. I have a wood bed so I cut a door right above the fuel pump & sending unit. Ill put hinges on it soon so when it does give way all I have to do is open the door & change it. THNx for responding
Not having to drop the tank is a huge timesaver. That's weird that you don't have that ropund gasket ring. I wonder if the previous owner replaced it? Oh well, at least you can get to it easy if it does leak again, which makes your repair soooo much easier. I still remember pumping all of the gas out of the tank except for about a gallon. When I took it down, that gallon of gas was rolling back and forth in that tank. I looked like a drunk juggling a wet bed sheet!
Yea the guy who owned it before me was one of them self taught good ol boys mechanics. Truck runs great but wouldnt suprise me if he makeshifted it. It will be nice to have that door. But going to have to drop the tank anyways stopped that leak which was huge. That allowed me to see I have a real small trickle one somwhere on top.
