Back end locked up...cause??

Back end locked up...cause??

When a vehicle sits for a while and the back end becomes locked up is that the rear-end or brakes? What needs to be done to "un lock"?

Brakes 99% of the time. Don't use the emer brake when parked for long times. Usually put it in reverse and get on the gas to break it free...

I bought an 1989 mustang 4 cylinder one time that had sat for at least 6 mos before I bought it. The e-brake had locked up and it wouldn't budge. He had to use a torch on it and I got some money off on the car. I ended up only paying 600 bucks and drove the car for three full years with no major repairs and only front brakes.
