Shimmy

I had a shimmy, I then bought new rim's. 17x8 AM, pro comp 33x12.5x17 and 2.5" front end lift. And know It rides better then the day I bought it I have 2004 F150 8' bed. I think it has to do with the way it sits and cheap tires.

good theory but I also added 17x8 wheels, 305/70R17 Goodyear MTRs and the Daystar 2.5" front end kit. It wasn't until then, that I GOT the dreaded shimmy/steering wheel nibble. With factory 18x7.5 and Goodyear whatevers, I had no shimmy at all.

I found a place that does road-force balancing and I am going to give that a shot.

I don't now but.....

I am on my second truck. I bought the first, put 400 miles on it, and took to the dealer with the "shimmy" problem and freaked out when they told me it would be two weeks to get it fixed. I checked this site and further freaked at all the vibration/shimmy/nibble issues. I told the dealer they could keep the truck. Despite my mental state, they were great. They let me come pick out another truck. I had to drive 3 (yes, 3) trucks to get one without the shimmy. Now my cruise does not work. If it were not for excellent dealer service, I would be in GMC by now. But if anyone is looking to buy, be sure to test drive it at highway speeds and be sure you are working with a good dealer.

Yes I do have the shimmy! It seems to come and go and it does not seem related to speed. I have had it back to the dealer twice for tire rotation and road force balance of the tires which really did not help. Does anyone know if Ford is working on a solution to this problem? because I don't plan to take it back to the dealer until they know how to fix it! Until then I can just hope the 06's will have this problem corrected so I can trade.

ARR: I see no problem. I do not think Ford will not correct a non-problem. My vehical does not shimmy or vibrate.

blkFRDf1504x4lar2004,

You may not have a problem, but many of us do, and we expect them to correct our problems. Ford is aware of this problem on some vehicles and are supposed to be working on a fix according to my dealer's conversation with an engineer.

I have a 04 Supercrew -Lariat - stock wheels with 275-65R/18 tires, 3.55 rear end. No changes, mods or upgrades. Truck built date 8/03. Purchased truck 8/21/04 advised dealer of shimmy at 70 mph. Dealer performed road force balancing - didn't resolve issue. Advised delaler of Technical service bulletin 03208 regarding steering wheel nibble at 60mph plus. Dealer order new steering gear and replaced. Steering wheel shimmy/nibble is gone.
Suggest you request steering gear replacement.
Still trying to correct vibration during normal acceleration between 50mph and 60 mph.
