E series rearend specs

I've been trying to find measurement specs on older Econoline vans (pre 92 body styles). What I would really like is an exploded view of the rear end assembly. If anybody knows of a website or publication I could reference, it would be grateful.

My aim is to put a dually axle on an E-150 cargo van. Some one mentioned that it would be hell because the frame and spring setups are different. I was trying to figure out HOW different, but cannot find and pictures or measurements on the net.

So any info would be great, thanks.

Go to the local dealer, alot of times they will let you look at the shop manuals, I assume you are wanting to put the axle out an F350 dually in your E150 van. I'd just go ahead and swap both axles so you can retain the 8 lug pattern front and rear. All you need to do is relocate the pring perches, cut them off carefully with either a plasma cutter or an oxy/acetalene torch, then weld them back on in the right location. It should be fairly easy. Just measure from the back of the backing plate to the outside (towards the backing plate) edge of the spring perch, then on the dually axle do the same and make a mark, then remove the old perch and weld it with the oustide edge at the mark... What year van are you wanting to convert? That will help too..

Thanks pfogle. I wasn't sure what axle to use. Originally I figured to use an E-350 cube van rear axle, but was told it was too different of a setup to modify. An F-350 axle had crossed my mind, but wasn't sure which would be easier to fit. And with a F series axle, I noticed that there are two types of duallys, "inset and offset". Inset having the duallys flush with the front tires. (forgive me for not using the correct terms, new to dealing with dually). I figured that an offset axle would work better (look cooler) because I wouldn't have to worry about modifying the innner wheel well if it was too narrow.

Most of my inspiration is from Frank Costa's Never Enough Van (http://www.vannin.com/neverenough/creating.html). But I was looking more for a stuby ford cargo van, around an '84, for the project.

This is definatly still in the research stages. I have not worked on anything this massive with a vehicle so this will be a learning experience for me. Any help anybody can give is helpful.

The axles are all the same, the only differences you are gonna come across are spring perch locations. I know that they make flares for using the dually axles on the vans, quigley does a bunch of these conversions, I'm sure the could give you some specs, and what axle(s) to use.

Thumbs up

Fattmann,
You have a Econoline and you loved Costa's Chevy, then you should really LIKE Bonehead's Revenge.
http://www.vannin.com/showvans/bonehead/index.html

(edit) i almost forgot, i talked to John Scull about how he did the job on Bonehead's Revenge,
The Dually axle bolted right to the original E 150 springs... the alignment bolt lined right up, no problem.
