"Fuel" Reserve

I am just curious as to the size of everyones reserve. When my "FUEL" Light comes on and you drive for another 20 or so miles to fill up. I only end up fitting about 31 gallons, which means there is an 8 gallon reserve. Anyone else have one this big??

Mine came on once saying I had 28 miles left. Drove about 20, and put in 29 1/2. Pretty good for a 28 gallon tank.

Tim, actually I don't mind the small tank. I don't do that much long distance travelling, and when I do I need to stretch after 5 hours. So there!!!

Our 2000 X had about 4 gallons left when the light came on (i.e. if I stopped right away, I could put 40 gallons in it.) The 2003 F250 fuel gauge rarely worked properly since I bought it, but it seemed like it was also about 4 gallons when the light came on (I could put 24 gallons in it.) They were going to drop the tank to replace the sender, so I bought a 46 gallon Transfer Flow tank for them to put back when they were done! We just took our first long trip with that, and twice we stopped when the light came on and it took 33 gallons, so I guess that means it comes on with 13 gallons left. That's pretty darn conservative. With the new sender, the gauge does finally work properly in all other respects.

I put 34 Gallons in an empty tank that I had removed to remove the vent extension tube so it would fill all the way up.

Low fuel light dinged on as I rolled up to the fuel pumps. Put 28.919 gal. into a "29 gal." tank. 612.3 miles on 33.22 gal. = 18.43 MPG. (about 120 miles of that was town driving..rest was open highway). Approx 3500 miles on vehicle. I wish I could keep that new vehicle smell ! Needless to say I'm loving my truck. Oh yea, it pulls too. JB
