Newbie start trouble

87 F150 I6 twin tank 5 speed 150,00km

Truck was running great for the 6 months previously. Daily driver (4-60km per day)
Then about 100yards after starting it up, It stalled on a hill (towed home)
I have no manual, and not many ideas!
In hindsight it was running slighty rough the day before.

1) On the drivers side 4 four lines (2 from each tank) follow the frame into a bottle-jack shaped thing (tank swop device?). 2 lines then come out and follow down to what I presume is a fuel pump (tube shaped, buzzes when ignition is switched on). So I presume the frame pump is ok.

2) Neither tank will fire the engine, so I presume any tank pumps (if there are any) are ok, as both wouldn't fail together.

3) So my logic leads me round to fuel problem, as when I spray starter fluid into the throttle body the engine fires (and dies).
Hence my assumption that it's a fuel prob, rather than electrical.

I've put an extra gallon into the front tank just to be certain there's gas available.
Where is the fuel filter on this? I assuming it's blocked (the truck wasn't serviced much by the previous owner)
Or any other ideas please?

I live on an small island so help is hard to come by, hence my post
Cheers

Could try tapping on the pump that's under the driver's side frame rail, sometimes that gets stuck.

Do you hear an in-tank fuel pump buzz on power-up? The dash tank switch or it's wiring could be faultly. That six-port fuel selector could be faulty. Have you checked the inertia switch? Fuel pump relay? If you are hearing the high pressure frame mounted fuel pump buzz, then it is possible the in-tank pumps aren't working. ...Terry

I hear the frame mounted pump buzz on start up and the inertia switch is pressed down.
Would the fuel pump still buzz if the relay is faulty? I presume the relay is near the airbox?

Oh, and I pulled the codes (after disconnecting the battery for charging, doh!)
But I get a 23, that's it. But I don't think a failed TPS would cause a non-start, would it?
Where's the fuel filter on this model?
Cheers
