I modified my saginaw p/s pump to increase the pressure a little by altering the high pressure bypass. I cycled several quarts of cheep fluid through to flush it out and then drove it. Seemed to work well. I then emptied as much fluid as I could from where the low pressure return line attaches to the "cooler" by jacking up the front and cycling the wheel from side to side many times. I then reattached the low pressure line and filled with Valvoline synthetic blend p/s fluid. I cycled the wheel back and forth about a hundred times till the fluid stopped going down in the resivoir. When I start the engine and move the wheel some I hear a noise and the fluid gets all foamy and over flows from the resivoir. The Valvoline bottle says it is not supposed to foam. I've repeated th procedure several times and still get the same results. I thought it might just take time to get the air out of the pump.
Has anyone had experience with synthetic blend fluid? Any ideas or suggestions?
It is not a wise idea to mix synthetic with regular oil's. I have heard if it is not cleaned completely of all the regular fluid that some foam will occur. Probably post this over in the oil section, they might know more.
i was not a good idea to modify the pump and to use a synthetic in a pump meant for dino was not a good idea unless there was not a drop of dino left in there
If the pump had any wear on it at all the pump was probably bypassing fluid past the valve plate. When you up the pressure this leakage can be tremendous. The bypass regulator is releasing a lot of heat into the fluid also. Between the heat and cavitation you will get lots of foam. It will also quickly destroy the pump.
