Well, I think I have a very unhappy PSD on my hands...
Thing is smoking blue bigtime until it warms up, then it reduces to just a haze, and, WOT application gets me this, with less smoke the more it warms up: http://www.bigblocksix.com//f100swb/00250/MVI_1506.AVI
It definatley smells like fuel smoke to me, not oil.
Engine runs rough from about 2500-2700 under WOT with no load. Has new air and fuel filters, going to do an oil change on Monday. Isn't triggering the CEL, but, I don't have access to a scanner that's of any real use right now however.
Has about 140K miles on it.
Injector O-rings? Just plain toast, what do you guys think?
I was actually expecting to see more smoke than that. Injector o-ring does seem the most likely culprit. Any hard/no start problems, or excessive oil and or coolant loss to suggest that it isn't an o-ring?
It was fairly warm that day, and the truck was near O/T when I took that video...
No hard starting problems, it's 50 degrees out there today, and it fired up without complaint even though I didn't bother to wait for the glows. She sure did roll out the blue at idle though.
No excessive oil loss that I've taken notice of, no oil in the coolant, or coolant in the oil.
Well, my and your best guess are the same then. I think it's an injector o-ring.
This would be a bit time consuming, but you could seperate the exhaust manifolds from the engine, then start the truck to determine which hole is doing the smoking.....but that might be a waste of time since you would likely do all the o-rings if you were going through the trouble of pulling one.
I'm tempted to do just that, just for something to do. The truck is going a whole lot of nowhere until at least Tuesday, waiting for a new set of rear rotors and one caliper for it, and I'm on days off.
As for the exhaust, that's all stock. Heck, other than a set of Warn premiums up front, the steel wheels(It's an XLT, had aluminums when it was new) and the same grille insert you have, the truck is as stock as it gets...
Ah well, if the PSD doesn't make it, a friend of mine has a pair of low mile 12V Cummins, and there are plenty of T444E powered school busses around here...
Just curious, how's the fitment of 285's on your truck? The Yokahamas on mine are just about done, thinking about going up to 285's
The 285's fit with absolutely no problems anywhere...in fact, I think they're almost too small for the wheel openings. My next set will be 315's, and maybe an add a leaf if they rub.
Thats what my truck was doing. Ford put a round of injectors in at the tail end of warrenty to stop the haze of blue on start up. O-rings would have done it but a guy cann't say no to fresh injectors. It still had a little shot of blue if you gave it some throtle and let off when cold, so in went a turbo and that was the end of that. I also run 285 without any rubbing.
