79 grill shell
Why is there such a wide range of prices on the grill shells? i have seen as low as 119 and as high as 450 for a shell. Are the OEM chrome and the others just aluminum? If I would get an aluminum shell would it look and hold up as nice as the OEM that is listed for 450?

NO. The one for 119 look's and will probably, well OK it will fit like crap. There is a big difference from the OE to an aftermarket. The metal on the aftermarket is a lot thinner gauge, the aluminum is not finished so it look's "rough", it bend's easy and won't fit correctly without modification. If you want it to look good go with an OE shell.

Good question! I as wondering the same thing for my '78. The Dennis Carpenter catalog has Grille Outer Chrome Shell "Coming Soon!". I'd like to see that one as Carpenter says it uses orginal Ford tooling. I want to go to Sept swap meet in Charlotte and maybe Carpenter's and look at different ones.
