A Little Understanding, Please...

A couple of posts that appeared this morning in another thread:

I'm looking to buy a 2004 or 2005 F-150 4x4 Lariat and would like price comparison of the two. I know the 2004 has rebates (tow package rebate?) and the 2005 probably does not.

I think I sent "Jeff" a private email with all the specs, if I did it right...I can get a deal through our credit union, but from what I've been reading, but I'd like to see if Jeff can come up with a better bargain...

1956MarkII (Jeff),
Don't worry about replying to my message above. Didn't know if I was going to hear from you and after a few unanswered private messages to you and an unreturned call to your dealership this afternoon, I went ahead and bought a fully loaded 2004 Lariat 4x4 locally. Sorry we missed each other! (BTW, this is NOT meant as a flame...)
I did return his phone call, as I left work last night, about 9:30PM our time (BTW, we close at 6:00 on Fridays). Unfortunately, it was his work number, and that was the only number I had to work with. He'll find the message on his voice-mail when he returns to work. I know he didn't mean it as a flame, but I do my best to return calls. I called a couple other people after that, and finished up a fun conversation as I pulled in my driveway, shortly after 10:30. At least yesterday was better than Thursday, when I got to work at 8:30AM, and left at 11:30 that night, getting home just after midnight.

I'm telling every one this NOT to get your sympathy, but to try to achieve some understanding on your part. We've been shorthanded here this week, and the requests for info from FTE have simply exploded. I'm sitting down next week with the owner and managers here to see if something can't be done to lessen my workload in the showroom, so I can devote the necessary time here. Until we can figure this out, I'm asking for understanding on everyone's part with respect to returning phone calls/ e-mails/ private messages. I'll probably never be able to express my true appreciation for those that have gone the extra mile or two (or thousand!) to buy a truck from me, so I don't want to come across as ungrateful. But for those that are requesting information and nothing more, I'll gladly continue to provide it. I just ask that all remember what you're PAYING for this info, and please keep that in mind as you make your request. I actually had one person DEMAND that I send him the F-350 ordering info within 24 hours, and I REALLY had to bite my tongue in order to prevent myself from telling him something I may later regret. Just be patient, and I will get back to you. And if calling you from the car on my way home @ 10:30 at night is too late to call, then let me know that in your initial contact.

PS. And one more thing: my private-message box often overflows, as we're limited to 30 messages total. I'd greatly appreciate it if you'd use the e-mail function to contact me, as I'll probably be turning off access to my private-message system. It just takes too much time to maintain, and the FTE e-mail is easier to respond to. Thanks again.

Jeff -

Sounds like you've been putting in some SERIOUSLY long hours!!! I've never had the pleasure of dealing with you but I, for one, really appreciate all the tips and info you've passed along.

Thanks for the heads up. I was beginning to think that you might have forgot about me. You get to mine when you can. I'm not in a huge hurry.

Hey Jeff:

This goes without saying...but I'll say it anyway: your input here is GREATLY appreciated!

I have learned a lot from your posts and I probably owe you a couple thousand dollars that you saved me on my recent F350 order.

Thanks a million (or at least a thousand),
Mike

I ordered my truck from Jeff. He has been exceptional to deal with. I hope to to see Jeff in September and thank him in person. He even called after the hurricane to give me the good news that my truck was being built.
Thank You for all your help Jeff.

Glad to hear of more Floridians taking the plunge and buying from Jeff You will not be disappointed! I could not have hoped for more out of a salesperson or a dealership

Jeff is absolutely terrific. I contacted him a few weeks ago about possibly buying a Ford Explorer. I live in Illinois, but was kicking around the thought of a drive to New York. Jeff corresponded with me several times, and get this......he told me that the deal I was being offered locally was really a GREAT deal. I've never before had such a totally honest, what's really best for me, statement made by someone who wanted/could sell me a vehicle. I don't know how Jeff does all this.......Anyway, the point is, Jeff will come through with the correct information. In my opinion, we are lucky to have someone, with such high ethical standards, here to help us.

jim1952,

I couldn't agree with you more. I have met only ONE car salesman/saleswoman in my 35+ years of buying vehicles that I've ever felt comfortable in dealing with and unfortunately, he passed away unexpectedly 2 years ago. Now Jeff makes two. Two out of hundreds!! I've always said they'd sell there own mothers to make a buck.

Car dealers have been ripping off people for years. (They don't drive a Focus or Cavalier, now do they?!?!) And now that the internet and guys like Jeff have tilted the playing field in the educated consumer's favor, they don't like it. Too bad more people don't do their homework and really put these guys behind the 8 ball.

Jeff,

You should have told that guy to take a hike!!! There are hundreds (maybe thousands) out here who appreciate what you do! Keep it up, you are #1!!!!

later............

Haha Funny you say that. We have a long-time family friend that owns a Ford dealership 40 miles from here. When my mom remarried, the wedding was actually at their house. They are very good friends, if that tells you anything. Anyway the guy that owns it has, for years, bragged about beating people out of money on sales and service, including his own family Hey, at least he doesn't discriminate. I remember his legendary stories of ripping people off when we would go on trips with them back when I was a kid. Needless to say, I don't deal with them

Jeff,

Your first quotes in the thread were from me (from several days ago by the way, not from today as you quote..) and I stand by my last sentence in my message to you, my message was not meant as a flame. If you look at all my other messages to you, they all are polite and complimentary, as that is the way I feel about your services you provide here. In fact, the reason for my last messages to you was out of consideration of your busyness and to let you know please don't waste you time following up with me as I completed a sale and it would only waste your time.

The problem is Jeff, I have no other way to get this news to you other than by posting because for some reason I cannot email you from this board as I get a message saying something about I'm not allowed to email because I have not been a member long enough. (I may have that message wrong, but I do know that I don't have emailing priviledges yet). And you are right, even though I received the return receipt that you had read my private messages to you, you are not returning private message replies. (By the way, you should remove the sentence in your signature that asks to "Please private message you for info")

I waited several days for an answer from you from my first posts and unfortunantly had to make a quick decision about a truck purchase as I live in Ca and my opportunity to fly to New York was quickly coming to an end. When I called your office they said you were on another phone call and would call me right back. After several hours of waiting I finally left my work and yes, you did return my call sometime after 6:00pm pst. (Thank you!)

Being a business person myself, there are no hard feelings as I too know what it's like to try to cover all bases's, sometimes it's just impossible.

I apologizes if my earlier message was taken wrong, as I said it was only meant to let you know to disregard working on a deal for me. Keep up the good work!
Regards,

Dan

keith w,

If you consider that dealer a family "friend," then so be it - to each his own.
However, true friendship is based on trust and loyalty. You don't trust him and he certainly isn't loyal to anyone except the almighty $$$$$! Of course, he isn't alone, there are thousands of dealers just like him across this great country of ours. Too bad. Hopefully, one day that will change.
