i have a 1992 e150 conversion van. yesterday i cleaned the battery terminals and ever since the van does not run right it idles real low and occasionally stalls out its like i have to keep my foot on the accelerator when stopped at lights and sitting in my driveway and if i put the ac on it dies unless i am touching accelerator....does anyone have any ideas what this could be i am taking a trip this week and this is not good
Thanks

sidala,
Is cleaning the terminals all you did? I assume that you removed them from the battery to clean them? If so, did one of the battery post rotate at all when you removed the wire from it? Did you cause an arc to the car body with your wrench while removing the positive terminal? Did you put anything on the terminals (grease etc) when you reassembled them to the battery? Did the battery cables have corrotion on the bare wire? They can corrode up under the insulation where you can't see it. Any of these things could cause a low voltage situation, or in the case of the arc, damage to an electrical component, that can cause the engine to not run right.

Assuming that you have a good battery and none of the above happened, one other thing comes to mind. When you disconnect battery power to the van's computer, it will reset the computer to a default mode. It takes a bit of driving for it to re-learn your deiving paterns and begin to run like it used to. That being said, mine has never exibited the symptoms that you mentioned while in the learning mode.
