Help! I'm getting a code from my scanner that says 'EGR Valve Position Sensor, Pressure Feedback EGR sensor, or EGR Pressure Transducer signal voltage too low. Does anyone know what could cause this problem? How do I fix it? Thanks
Got your email but for some reason the reply didn't work. As far as checking your EGR sensor codes, I've never done that as none of my current vehicles (Ranger or Aerostar) have an EGR. But there are a few things I would do anyway. I would start by checking the wiring and connectors to make sure that they aren't loose, broken and/or that none of the pins are bent. Also, check to make sure that all of the electrical grounds are clean. And, you might want to pull off the EGR to see if it is stuck. After a while they can get sticky and a good cleaning will fix them. If you go to www.actron.com and download their sensor tester manual, you may find that there is a simple way to check out those sensors with just a DMM (voltmeter). If those sensors are just resistance devices, then checking it out would be pretty easy with the DMM. If those sensors work by producing a frequency or phase shift, then you would need more sophisticated instrumentation. Or, you could buy Actron's sensor tester (if it can test these types of sensors). I can't really recommend it because I don't have one and I have never used one. Good luck.
Well in my 94 Explorer and in another one I know about, the code meant that this small metal rectangular EGR pressure sensor needed to be replaced. It has 2 small rubber hoses that connect down on the EGR tube, and an electrical plug.
Very easy to get at, like 1 screw to pull it off.
Spent a bit of telephone time looking for a new one, til I found that NAPA dealers stocked them at about $44 or so. No further "check engine" problems in mine since I replaced it. Now I'm up to about 212,000 miles on my 94.
DPFE sensors commonly go bad on explorers. The basic part number at the dealer is 9J460. Of course do the pinpiont test to see if that is definitly the cause.
