Looking for an engine and tranny for my '62 F100 4WD, need something w/POWER and easy to bolt in. I also want to know what "power assist" is, is it just for adding to brakes for power or steering or both, and where can I find one and is it worth getting one Thanks Much
Welcome to FTE! Usually the easiest engine to "bolt in" will be the one Ford put in there in the first place. Not trying to be a wise a%%, but the original engine will be the easiest. If you have a six you can replace the original with a 300 CI. If you have a 292 V8 you could install a 312 with 4V and find quite a bit of power. The old 292 was no slouch either, just that performance parts are a bit harder to come by. And of course any Ford engine with the proper adapters will also work.
Fe's and Winsor motors are your most popular. A 360 or 390 is going to generate more torque (power) for pulling loads and the winsors will be great for cruising or traveling. Almost anything you want to do is possible but some are easier than others.
Since your starting with a pre-65 model, your going to have to modify several components to do any swap I mentioned. best bet is do some browsing through this forum and read up on the good choices already mentioned. It really is all going to depend on your talents, your budget, and your idea of what your truck is going to be doing when done.
Good luck.
Thanks for the info...I know I have alot of bits and things to do on it, but, I will eventually get around to it. but first of all I need as much info I can get before doing this....
Thanks for the info. eventually i'll get around to playing with it, but no hurry working 2 jobs now. now that I got the engine out of the way. Now I want to upgrade the brakes to power and disc. where to find??? or pull from what vehicle and year???
