Check Engine Light
I have a 1997 Ranger 4x4 4.0 V6. The Check engine light is on. I had the code read at AutoZone. They said that it was either one of the three O2 sensors or the mass air flow sensor. Is there any test I can do on those components to try to narrow down the problem? Then if I fix the problem will the check engine light go off immediatley or will I have to do something else for the light to go off and pass emission tests.

After you fix the problem,just unhook the negative battery cable for 5 minutes and this will clear the codes.If you have the codes wrote down,you can check out the "sticky" at the top of the page,TECHNICAL INFORMATION,for the cause of the code,under OBD II codes.you will also find info on testing the componants in the emissions section,same place you find the codes.
