56 rear shocks/mounts

I am putting in a 2000 Explorer rear end under my 56. I have heard that the rear shocks need to be changed to an "eye" on each end. Are there any advantages to this or is this just someone's opinion? The rear end is offset also, do I need to offset the engine and trans or put it in the middle of the truck? Thanks for you help.

I'm not sure on the offset of the 2000 rear end. I don't believe it would make that be of a difference unless the offset is big and the drive line, etc has a radical angle. As for the shocks. The original 56 shocks have the "eye" holes on the bottom where a pin goes through the shocks and is fastened by a nut. If your going to use the original shocks that came on a 56? You'll have to change the shock plates to the original. I'm not sure what shocks go on the 2000, but you can figure something out. The top mount should be a "pin" mount on the original 56. I believe the 2000 has a "pin" mount on the bottom. Therefore, you need to find a shock with the "pin" on both ends of the shock. I would also take a measurement of the length you will need. Auto parts can then make a match of a shock for you that will work for your application. Good luck. Let us know how the rear end conversion goes.
