I have a 92 supercab with a few mods; crane truck power cam, 3 angle valve job, hogged out intake bowls, 2 1/2" from the cat back thru a magnaflow, .040 off the head and .030 over hyperutectics.
My problem is probably 2 of them. One is a slight miss at idle that seems to get worse when I go closed loop and the other is my egr does not work at all.
Codes show 558, 172 and 332. I have checked all I can think of in the way of vacium leaks and did find one which did help but not eliminate the idle problem. I have not re-checked to see if fixing the one vacium leak removed the 172 but I doubt it did.
I have good vacium going to the evr but cannot get any coming out at any rpm. I have replaced the evr but no change. I am to the point that I am thinking my problem is in whatever controls the evr. I do plan to replace the pcv this week-end since it is old and there is a slim chance it might help.
Sure would appreciate some suggestions on what to try next.
The EVR is controlled by the computer. It should have 12 volts powering one side and the computer grounds the other side to control vacuum flow to the EGR valve. Sitting in the driveway the EVR will probably never be commanded to open. On an automatic the trans must be in gear to enable the system. On a manual trans truck it uses combinations of sensor readings to determine if EGR is requested. The computer will not command the EVR open unless the engine is under load. You should also check the EGR position sensor. If it goes bad the computer will think the EGR valve isn't opening even though it is.
Thanks for the hints but unfortunately they have not solved the problem. I pulled the egr sending unit and read all combinations from all the terminals with an ohm meter while slowly depressing the plunger. I don't know what values I should have gotten but I think there should have been an even increase or decrease in resistance and there was not so I replaced it. I cleared the codes and the dogs and I went for a ride. The check engine light came on again after about 3 blocks.
At this point all I can think of is the egr solenoid and the tps. Don't know how to check either but will keep reading.
If you have any more suggestions I sure would appreciate some help.
