My father has a 1987 Ford E-150 van, it had a problem with the starter relay, loose connection at the pigtail. When he moved the relay it started fine and continued to run fine until last week. At first when it did not start he checked the starter relay again for good connection and discovered that the connection was good (relay was clicking when he turned the key on). After consulting with some local mechanics that were familiar with the E150 , he was advised that the relay at rare times could still be bad and click as if it were good.He obtained a replacement relay and still no start. A friend checked it for him and jumped some wires and got the van to start for him, I am told that the van will not shut off with the key , he has to kill the power to the fuel pump first and then turn the key off. He was told to replace the module at the distributor to effect a proper repair. When we searched the Autozone web site for the replacement part I could find no reference to this item. What is this part called , I have checked the forum streams and have found some references to this part but am at a standstill because I have no name to give it when I conduct a search.
Could you tell me where the obd recept is located? I looked for it the first time the van shut down and when the old feller saw my code scanner he almost had a heart attack ( it was a paper clip , I was going to use it to jump the A and B terminals) ... He did not believe me when I told him that It was an acceptable tool and method to pull trouble codes. So now I have to be quick and sneaky to pull the codes but I have to find the receptacle first.......
