I just bought a 97 F350, so I figured that I would do what I always do: head down to the parts store and buy a Chiltons and/or a Haynes manual. Couldn't find one. Checked the internet. Still no luck. Found plenty of CD versions on EBay, but I want a book. So here's the question: Is the 97 F350 close enough to a 96 that my 87-96 manuals will work?
Pretty much the same truck as a 96. I have a 97 F250HD and have the chilton 87-96 and it works just fine for me. Also to make it easy at the parts store I just tell the clerk that I have a 96 just to make life easier on them and myself.

Pretty much the same engine. I do know from experience that the CMP sensor part # changed in 1997, but the engine is basically the same. Why are you opposed to the CD version? I have a DVD service manual and it makes things very easy to access. Anything I need for service I either print or read when I need it.
7.3 sled - is the Chiltons you have titled "pickups/expedition/navigator"? I saw that one a the store, but there was a little blurb on the front that said "F150, F250 (except HD models)", so I put it back. I'll go back and check the part number, that's the best lead I have so far.
Johnsdiesel - I have to agree that the CDs are useful, but I don't have a computer in the garage, and my wife would kill me if I trailed grease in and out of the house just to look something up! I do have a couple of repair CDs, but I think that nothing beats hanging out in the garage with a greasy book in one hand and a greasy beer in the other!
This morning I went to the book store. I saw the book with the part number that was referenced earlier. I read the blurb on the front, and I even thought to myself "it says Super Duty, not HD."
I went home, checked the FTE forums, and now I know I'm looking at the right book!
Still undecided about buying it though, I have the 87-96 book...
